(Dusk of the Gods)
Act II
Relayed from the Royal
Opera House, Covent
Garden '
THE curtain rises on the hall of the Gibichungs, where Hagon is on guard. His father Alberich appears, urging him to win back the Ring at all costs. Then Siegfried returns. In the first Act Hagen, by a magic potion, has made him false to Brunnhilde, and ho is now to wed the Gibichungmaid, Gutrune. Gunther and Brunnhilde reach the hall in a boat on the Rhine. Brunnhilde, seeing Siegfried, is appalled by his treachery, knowing nothing of Hagen's guile. Hagen's plot succeeds ; Gunther and the vassals realize Siegfried's treachery and agree, when Hagen announces that it demands the hero's death. Brunnhilde too condemns him.
The Act closes with the glad music for the twofold bridal of Siegfried and Gutrune and Gunther and Briinnhilde. But the grim ' motive of Murder' breaks in, and to the sound of it the curtain falls.
