(Fudaraku-no-Kishlbe) by KIYOKAZU YAMAMOTO translated from the Japanese by JOHN BESTER
Music by SEIICHIRO UNO This play, set in 16th-century Japan, deals with a clash of Christian and Buddhist Ideas about the voyage to Fudaraku (paradise) - in western eyes a type of ritual suicide.
It won the RAI prize at the 1981 Prix Italia in its Japanese production by NHK. This English production uses the original music and sound effects tapes. with NIGEL GRAHAM and members of the GEKIDAN SUBARU
