Sixteen thousand runners and joggers and two-and-a-half million spectators took to the streets last weekend to take part in the biggest race in the world - the New York Marathon.
' Every human must have the capacity to endure, and could find it if he tried. And there is no better place to discover it than in the marathon. For the truth is that every man in the marathon is a survivor or nothing, including the winner.'
