The British Academy Film Awards

on BBC One London

The cinema world gathers at London's Leicester Square as Stephen Fry hosts the British movie event of the year, where Renee Zellweger, Pierce Brosnan, Charlize Theron and Imelda Staunton are among guest presenters handing out the prestigious golden masks.
Moving political thriller The Constant Gardener heads the pack with ten nominations, while the much-acclaimed Brokeback Mountain and the evocative Crash are not far behind with nine apiece. Other celluloid competitors hoping to emerge triumphant include Syriana, Pride & Prejudice, North Country Walk the Line and six-times nominated Good Night, and Good Luck.
Tonight also sees the debut of an award honouring the industry's rising star - as voted for by the public - and the nominees here are James McAvoy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michelle Williams, Rachel McAdams and Gael Garcia Bernal.
Continues at 10.15pm.

(Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal stars in Lovely & Amazing at 11.50pm: Film 2005 with Jonathan Ross is tomorrow at 11.05pm; Pierce Brosnan guest-stars on Davina on Wednesday at 8pm)
