This Guy's in Love with You - the Herb Alpert Story

on BBC Radio 2

4/4. Richard Carpenter profiles trumpeter, composer and producer Herb Alpert, who co-founded A&M Records and had huge success as frontman of breezy,
Latin-spiced instrumental septet the Tijuana Brass and, on one particular occasion, as a solo singer (This Guy's in Love with You).

This final edition looks at Alpert's 1979 comeback hit Rise, and his and Jerry Moss 's 1989 sale of A&M Records, whose roster of acts included Carole King , Carpenters, Stealers Wheel, Joan Armatrading, Captain and Tennille, Squeeze, Quincy Jones, Janet Jackson, Supertramp and, perhaps most famously, the Police. Plus a look at Alpert and Moss's post-A&M venture, Almo Sounds, and the former's interests as a painter and a Broadway producer. With input from Herb Alpert, Jerry Moss, Roger Hodgson (of Supertramp), Sergio Mendes, Sting, and Tijuana Brass trumpeter Bob Findlay. Producers Nick Low and Paul Welsh
