Starting School
This week about 300,000 small children will start school for the first time in their lives - sometimes to the relief of their mothers, but often with a few tears shed by both parent and five-year-old.
What can we expect them to learn in the first few monthst Is there anything a parent can do to prepare a small child for school? But an 11-year-old may have just as many problems starting at ' big school. Will he know anyone there! Is she wearing the correct uniform? Vi Tomlinson , Headmistress of a London primary school and John Hipkin , Director of the Advisory Centre for Education, take calls about the problems parents and children face at all ages when starting a new school.
