The inside story of the most famous police headquarters in the world.
Reporter John Clare
It's the home of the Porn Squad and Special Branch, the Drugs
Squad and the Sweeney. It's where they investigate fraud, robbery, terrorism and murder. It was not without its own corruption, until SIR ROBERT MARK began to clean it out. It's never far from the headlines. Officially called Commissioner's Office, it's known everywhere as Scotland Yard.
Tonight's film goes behind the scenes of a murder inquiry, examines the work of the Obscene Publications Squad, talks to policemen who investigate other policemen accused of wrong-doing. It goes on a raid with the Flying Squad, tours the Black Museum, quizzes detectives about carrying guns and the use of informers. It shows for the first time what lies behind the locked doors of the Yard's Operations Room, and explores the disturbing world of police surveillance and computerised record-keeping.
