Probably the most important archaeological excavation in Italy at the moment is at Orbetello in Tuscany, where Professor Andrea Carandini , together with a team of British archaeologists under Tim Tatton-Brown . is investigating a large villa built about 80 Be. The style of this building and influence of its estate on the countryside is providing new information about the ' villa system '. Malcolm Billings reports from the site with the latest developments.
