On the 30th anniversary of the formation of Dreams, Randy Brecker talks about the band that gave birth to the hugely popular Brecker Brothers. Tonight's concert features Steve
Swallow performing at Ronnie Scott 's in March. Swallow took up the double bass at 18 and six years later won a Downbeat critics' poll as a new star of bass playing. In the late sixties, he played with Gary Burton 's quartet and at the beginning of the seventies gave up the double bass in favour of the bass guitar, developing his own style using a pick and a new fingering system. Since then he has worked with Mike Gibbs , and he is a long-time member of Carla Bley 's various bands. He is also a prolific composer for small bands, and some of his music is featured tonight. Appearing with him are Chris Potter (tenor sax), Barry Ries (trumpet), Mike Goodrick (guitar) and Adam Nussbaum (drums). Producer Steve Shepherd
