Music: Eurovision - Making Your Mind Up 6.35pm BBC1
I'm worried. And I expect that other dyed-in-the-wool Eurovision fans may be, too, because the powers that be have decided to change the way we pick our Eurovision Song Contest entry so that we never again have to suffer the humiliation of last year's nul points.
Previously, all the contenders have come from the nation's budding songwriters via the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers, but in this live show, presented by Terry Wogan and Gaby Roslin, the Academy is contributing just one song, with various "top pop composing teams" penning the other five. There's also an expert panel providing an overview of what we should be looking for as we vote for the song we want to see performed in Turkey in May.
As they've taken their lead from Pop Idol, it'll doubtless be a more upbeat, enjoyable selection process, but I hope everyone realises it won't guarantee us a winning entry. Anyway, as all Eurovision aficionados know, winning isn't the most important part of this festival of kitsch. The UK's resounding failure last year (sorry, Jemini) made it one of the most glorious and exciting Eurovisions since the outrageous Dana International's victory in 1998. (Jane Rackham)
