Intimate Relationships: A Friend of the Family

on BBC One London

The first of three programmes about the relationships between doctors and their patients.

A friend of the family... that Is how your family doctor would like to be regarded - even though he knows you play games with him. Games like 'Wooden Leg'; 'Clever Doctor'; 'Why don't you - yes but.' Sometimes you may not even fully realise you are playing them. But your family doctor does.
The doctor and his black bag are synonymous with humanity and wisdom. He is the one to turn to in moments of personal crisis. But at the same time he probably has his own special games, too - games which enable him to put you at your ease; ploys designed to relieve your embarrassment at that most private of all moments - the Consultation. It is all part of a unique and complex relationship. But how deep does it really go?
(Parts two and three Wednesday: 9.20 pm, Friday: 10.15 pm. See page 3)
