The Lord Mayor's Show

on BBC One London

'I have chosen a nautical theme for this year's
Lord Mayor's Show because it is a subject in which I am deeply interested, having spent
17 years at sea with the Canadian Pacific Line after attending the Nautical College,
Pangbourne. The floats will reflect the interest and involvement of the City's financial institutions with shipping and Britain's sea trade. Also included are bands and marching contingents of Royal sea-going organisations. I am particularly pleased that for the first time in more than a century the River Thames will feature as part of the Show illustrating the tunning of the Port and the various organisations involved with the river.' The Lord Mayor of London
London's great free show takes place today when the new Lord Mayor, Alderman Sir Robin Gillett, Bt, leaves the Mansion House in his Golden State Coach and drives in a splendid procession through the City streets to the Royal Courts of Justice.
