played by Percival Mackey and his Band
After three and a half years' service during the last war Percival Mackey entered the music-publishing business. Overheard while demonstrating songs, he was offered a job as a band pianist. Then, forsaking the piano for the baton, he acted as musical director for some of the most successful musical comedies on the West-End stage, among them No No ! Nanette and Gay Divorce. In No No ! Nanette he conducted one of the first dance-style orchestras to play in an orchestral pit.
