TWO VIEWS OF SYRACUSE

on BBC Home Service Basic

by Maurice Fowler
As a schoolboy Maurice Fowler studied the story of the siege of Syracuse in the time of the ancient Greeks, and as a soldier in the second world war he visited the town. He was thus given two glimpses of Syracuse, one through his own eyes and one through the eyes of Thucydides.
