Bernard Leach is one of the leading artist-craftsmen in Britain today. Trained at the Slade School of Art he went as a young man to Japan. In Japan he rediscovered the glories of ancient Chinese and Korean pottery, and founded there a school of craftsmen potters. Since 1920 he has been working in St. Ives, Cornwall, adapting oriental methods to the needs of the Western world.
