Hear and Now

on BBC Radio 3

Stephen Pratt introduces an edition from the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
The main work is Stockhausen's monumental Mantra from 1971, which marked a return to fully notated music, performed by Ellen Corver and Sepp Grotenhuise (pianos) and Jan Panis (sound diffusion). The festival also includes a retrospective of the work of Morton Feldman (1926-87). Omar Ibrahim (bass) and Ensemble Recherché perform pieces from his early and middle years, including the British premiere of The O'Hara Songs and Why Patterns?, a work inspired by Feldman's interest in Asian rugs. Producer Paul Hindmarsh
