Indian Eyes on the Future

on BBC One London

Next week India holds the most important General Election in the twenty years of her independence. Her population has now passed the 500-million mark and there is famine in more than one state.

The wellbeing of more than one-seventh of mankind is at stake and depends increasingly on a little-known group of Indians, the scientists and engineers.
How do they see the future of their country? In this programme they speak frankly of the problems they face, and assess critically their chances of success.
