The punk movement, having heralded the renaissance of English pop music, gradually faded into the background, as new styles and sounds emerged in its wake. Only the best of that period managed to sustain and progress and retain their popularity. Many of the bands' names already have a nostalgic ring. The Jam, however, rode out all these changes in style, and remain as fresh and popular as ever they have been.
Tonight's rock concert features them on stage at the Bingley Hall, Birmingham, in front of a capacity audience and it is self-evident that they have not lost any of that drive and energy that has kept them at the front of British rock music in recent years.
