Derek McCulloch (Uncle Mac) has through his broadcasts in Children's Hour brought a better understanding of our dumb friends. Tonight he appeals on behalf of the Blue Cross and Our Dumb Friends' League Horse Protection Fund. The League was founded in 1897 to encourage kindness to animals and to provide veterinary and other services.
During every year the League helps in the care of more than a quarter of a million animals. Funds are needed to maintain and extend the Blue Cross work in saving working horses from slaughter. Nearly 600 horses have already been rescued by tfhe Society and returned to useful work on our farms. Money is also needed to buy and maintain horse box ambulances so that horses can be transported under the direct care of the Society.
