This influential American pianist rose to fame in the early 60s with John Coltrane. Geoffrey Smith introduces a recording of the concert Tyner gave at the Royal Festival Hall in May when heplayed solo and with his 15-piece band which included Billy Harper (tenor sax), Steve Turre (trombone), John Clarke (French hom) and Jerry Gonzalez (percussion).
