Composer of the Week: Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)

Donald Macleod begins his survey of the life and works of Maurice Ravel in the south of France, where Ravel was born to a Basque mother and Swiss father. He traces Ravel's early life and his friendship with the Spanish pianist Ricardo Vines, who gave the first performances of much of Ravel's piano music.
