The first BBC Prom was broadcast 80 years ago tonight, after the BBC took over the concerts. Radio historian Sean Street explores the significance of this moment, meets Proms director Nicholas Kenyon and Jenny Doctor, editor of a new history of the Proms, and trawls through the first-night reviews and other comment in the press.
