John Maynard Keynes died in 1946 but the economic theories he developed were successfully used by governments all over the world to produce more than 25 years of unparalleled prosperity.
By the mid-70s however, in the wake of the huge rise in oil prices and mounting inflation, doubts began to set in. Some said Keynesian policies were simply out of date; others that they had always contained the seeds of the own destruction.
