Appeal on behalf of the Florence Nightingale Hospital, by Anna Neagle C.B.E. ,
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
Florence Nightingale was appointed as Lady Superintendent of the Hospital in 1853. This year, therefore, commemorates the centenary of her appointment. Through the Hospital which bears her name, Miss Nightingale first made the world aware of her powers and inspirations. Here she proved herself and her gemus. This success was followed by the invitation to go to the Crimea.
The hospital today is maintained to provide medical and surgical treatment for women of limited means and of the professional classes who caninot afford high fees and prefer private accommodation. The Minister of Health decided not to include this specialised hospital in the National Health Scheme. Only one fifth of the total cost of running the hospital is met by payments from patients, the remainder has to be found from voluntary sources.
