The Story of the ' Mary Rose'

on BBC Radio 4 FM

On the 20th of July the whole navy of the Englishmen made out and purposed to set on the Frenchmen. But in the setting forward, through much folly, one of the King's ships, called the Mary Rose , was drowned in the midst of the haven ... In her were Sir George Carew , Knight, and 400 soldiers.
For nearly 430 years the Mary Rose has lain at the bottom of the sea, off Spithead, in an almost perfect state of preservation. Ten years ago Alexander McKee began his search for the ship and now he hopes she can be weighed up and saved.
Victor Lucas tells the fascinating and tragic story of Henry VIII 's Mary Rose.
