Stumps
As the leaves fall in an autumn woodland, decay is in the air. Yet tree stumps invaded by moss and fungi are in bloom - the weather ideal for spore-castmg.
There's a late harvest for stump-dwelling animals. Wood ants scale the pines in search of aphids, and dormice stock up on the hazelnut crop before the first frosts signal 'close of play'. Written and narrated by Peter France (R)
