Mrs. Dale, the doctor's wife, records the daily happenings in the life of her family
Sally brought back woollens from Hawick that Mrs. Freeman considered too smart for Parkwood Hill. Gwen almost decided to give up work to be more with Billy, but David stopped her because he felt that they needed the extra money. Mrs. Freeman strained her eyes addressing envelopes for 'Sarah's' Christmas cards and then found that Mr. Fulton had already given the work to a firm. In spite of her eyestrain she agreed to supervise the costumes for The Maid of the Mountains. Dr. and Mrs. Dale took their painting to the National Gallery, but learned that it was not a Constable. The new children's hospital was officially opened. Isabel Fielding was upset because Tiggy wanted to spend Christmas with a school friend, away from home E.A.L. forestalled Sally by sending out a Christmas card of their own before 'Sarah's' cards were delivered; Sally discovered that they had learned about her plans from the local printer.
