on BBC Radio 2

2/3. Comic actor Rob Brydon traces the history of situation comedy in order to assess its relevance as a social and cultural barometer. He talks to the creators of some of the more successful and significant sitcoms, and attempts to get at what the writers really had in mind when devising these shows. This work themed instalment recalls The Phil Silvers Show (1955), Steptoe and Son (1962), Dad's Army (1968), On the Buses (1969), Are You Being Served? (1972), Porridge (1973), Fawlty Towers (1975), The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (1976), Hide-Hi! (1980), Yes Minister (1980), Father Ted (1995), The Office (2001) and other popular favourites.
