Rod Turner is headed for the scrap heap. Ten years ago he was a soccer superstar but now he plays mediocre football for a tenth-rate team and consoles himself with drink. Then suddenly he is offered the chance to make a comeback. The leading striker of a successful Third Division team is injured in the FA Cup quarter final and the clubs pop-star owner insists on seeking out his boyhood idol as a replacement.
