Mary Jarred, who is one of the foremost of British opera singers, was born in Yorkshire.Shestudiedunderthelate Victor Biegel in London, later joining his operatic classes in Bayreuth. Shortly after returning to London she was engaged to sing in the International Season at Covcnt Garden. She has sung at many places on the Continent. including the Hamburg State Opera House, and the Hague Opera House. Mary Jarred appears frequently with all the leading British orchestral and concert-giving societies. A week or two ago she broke new ground by singing in ' The Happidrome ', and received a vociferous welcome. Listeners to the Home Service programme will hear her at
7.30 p.m. today.
