A programme for children under five
'Thank you very much,' wrote a small girl, 'for she tunnel, and the two puffers, and the taxis, and the broken Sir Something.' 'We liked "Robert the Engine,"' wrote a group of children; 'may we have it again sometime, please?' This story by Mollie Thorne, about a big engine called Sir Gareth and a little one who was afraid of tunnels, proved a great favourite with many children when it was broadcast a few weeks ago. We received numerous letters requesting it again, so here it comes on Friday of this week, accompanied by the 'train music' which always pleases so many of our young listeners and gives, to those who wish it, an opportunity to 'let off steam' in the guise of engines themselves. 'I wish,' wrote one mother, 'you could have seen him rushing round the room yesterday - "I were a train, I were," he said.' The remaining stories for the week have all been heard before. Today comes 'Katharine's Washing Day' by Margaret Gore; tomorrow and on Wednesday, two 'Pussy White' stories ('Cold Paws' and Cream Cartage') by Dorothy Dixon; and on Thursday 'A Bridge for Mrs. Mulhooley' by Eileen Mathias.
