The Movie Crazy Years: Angels with Dirty Faces

on BBC One London

The 30s, heyday of Hollywood and the stars. Tonight, the second of a season of films from Warner Brothers - the 'now' studio of those hectic days starring James Cagney, Pat O'Brien, Ann Sheridan, Humphrey Bogart

'Rocky' Sullivan, the East Side kid who grew into a hardened criminal, is Cagney's most famous role. Tough yet charming, he appealed to both sexes and turned the late 30s gangster movie into family entertainment, adding a dash of social comment for good measure.
