Elizabeth is Queen

on BBC One London

The story of Coronation Day - 20 years ago this week.

On 2 June 1953 Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation was celebrated with traditional splendour. This film is a colourful record of that day in London. It began in the early hours when, after weeks of elaborate preparation, the processions formed up and the vast crowd of spectators took up their places along the route. The film reaches its climax with the centuries-old service in Westminster Abbey as the Sovereign is crowned.
