Last Thursday, 50 top event riders from eight countries started on what is generally acknowledged to be the world's most searching equestrian test.
Today, having satisfied the vet that their mounts have come through the gruelling Speed and Endurance phase sound in wind and limb, the survivors compete in the final phase - the show jumping. The winner will receive one of the sport's most coveted awards, the Whitbread Trophy, from Her Majesty The Queen. Introduced by RAYMOND BROOKS -WARD
