The Monday Play: The Abbess of Crewe

on BBC Radio 4 FM

by Muriel Spark dramatised by Pauline Spender
with Sian Phillips as Sister Alexandra and Margaret Robertson as Sister Gertrude
A sparkling satire on the Watergate affair. At the Abbey of Crewe, the sisters are about to elect a new Abbess. Sister Alexandra has no doubts whatsoever that she will he elected. She has reasons to be confident: the cloisters are bugged.
But the first glimmers of trouble begin when Sister Felicity's thimble goes missing.
