The Translation
First: of two talks by G. R. Driver
Professor of Semitic Philology in the University of Oxford
The American Revised Standard Version of the Bible was published simultaneously in the U.S.A. and in this country last September. The New Testament had already appeared six years earlier, and attention has therefore been directed mainly towards the Old Testament. In this talk Professor Driver examines the quality of the Old Testament as a translation. He himself is a prominent member of a committee engaged on a completely new translation of the Bible into English.
