BBC Welsh Orchestra
(Leader, Philip Whiteway)
Conductor, Rae Jenkins
Carmel Hakendorf (violin)
(Carmel Hakendorl broadcasts by arrangement with S. A. Gorlinsky, Ltd.)
Carmel Hakendorf , the young Australian violinist, came to England a few months ago at the suggestion of Sir John Barbirolli, who heard her play when he was in Adelaide last year. She has appeared with the Halle Orchestra at Manchester and elsewhere, and on May 30, again with the Halle Orchestra, she played in London. She broadcast for the first time in this country when she gave the Friday Recital on June 27. Sir John has predicted that she will become one of the great violinists of the day. Rafael Kubelik , too, when he heard her in Australia in 1946, described her as a genius. Harold Rutland
