A Programme of Recollections
Arranged and presented by GEORGE CAMPBELL with ETHEL McLEAN (soprano)
ALBERT DEWAR (tenor)
GEORGE CUNNINGHAM (baritone)
George Campbell , who gives his recollections this evening, is one of the most popular members of the Scottish music trade. Starting life in a piano shop with the weekly wage of half a crown, he worked from eight in the morning until nine at night. But Mr. Campbell, even in his most strenuous days, was not merely a seller of music and musical instruments. He had a deep and absorbing love for music itself. He has been chorister, bell-ringer, vocalist, organist, and conductor, and was Chairman of the Production and Music Committee of the famous Craigmillar Pageant in 1928, when he had the honour of being presented to the King and Queen. He is past President of the Edinburgh Society of Musicians and has also had a long connection with the Edinburgh Opera Company.
