Before They Were Famous

on BBC One London

Angus Deayton provides a fascinating selection of cringe-making clips of famous celebrities, filmed long before they were famous. Deayton does not forget himself and includes his famous cereal advertisement, along with Dustin Hoffman praising a car and a 14-year-old Naomi Campbell prancing about on The Keith Harris Show.

Before They Were Famous 9.00pm BBC1
Resplendent in orange velvet, Angus Deayton hosts a show whose title rather blows the mystery of its contents. Is there anything more gratifying than seeing the feted and the famous grovelling about like the rest of us while waiting in the wings of superstardom? Those familiar with the Deayton/Danny Baker sense of humour will know what to expect from their script.
The researchers have unearthed an astonishing array of stars in unlikely places: Arnold Schwarzenegger on Magpie, Jeremy Irons on Play Away, Anna Ford singing Dylan's Masters of War in her best Joan Baez-quaver, the list is endless and endlessly hilarious. It may be buttock-clenchingly embarrassing for the stars, but it's so funny it should carry a health warning.
See who you recognise in our early line-up on page 25.
