The Lawn Tennis Championships
The opening day of the world's greatest tennis tournament direct from the All England Club.
Featuring the first round of The Men's Singles Championship

John McEnroe, as defending Champion, has the honour of opening play on the Centre Court. Since he won his first title here in 1981 he has become the dominating figure of men's tennis but this year his superiority on grass will be put to the severest test. As well as Jimmy Connors, who has won twice here, and Ivan Lendl, a semi-finalist last year, there's Yannick Noah, and last year's Italian Champion, Jimmy Arias, playing Wimbledon for the first time. Youngsters Stefan Edberg of Sweden and Aaron Krickstein of the United States could also surprise the top seeds.

They are just seven of the 128 contenders for the most prestigious title in tennis. Harry Carpenter introduces BBC live coverage of the championships and keeps you up-to-date with news and results from all 18 match courts.
