Mr. E. L. WOODWARD : 'France '—IV
National and international politics are shaped by economic realities. In the last of his four talks on France, Mr. Woodward examines the economic structure of French life and its bearing on the country's political outlook. Ho traces the growth of French socialism and compares it with German and English developments ; states the aims and methods of organized labour : reviews the position of the peasantry, and estimates the strength of agriculture in relation to industry. He ends his survey by considering whether these social forces have found equilibrium or whether a period of sharp conflict is ahead.
