Composer of the Week: Vivaldi

on BBC Radio 3

After Vivaldi's death in 1741, his music lay largely unperformed until this century, and his name appeared mainly in textbooks or as fuel for the Italian nationalist fire. Since the 1950s and the rediscovery of The
Four Seasons, however, the increase in his music's popularity has become almost unstoppable. Andrew Manze introduces recordings reflecting our greatly increased awareness of his music over the last 50 years.
