Jazz File: Detour Ahead: 1: Charlie Christian

Charles Shaar Murray presents the first in a series profiling four of the most influential jazz guitarists. Working in the late 1930's and early 40's, primarily in the bands of Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian was the first player to establish the electric guitar as a jazz instrument. He was also a major contributor to the development of the bebop style of playing.
