A brand new series telling The Story of Motown
Stuart Grundy introduces part 1:
Marvelettes and Miracles
How to turn a small black American record company into a national entity was the problem faced in the late 1950s by a man called Berry Gordy. He describes himself as a dreamer, and perhaps that is why he was able to ignore the almost insurmountable odds and the fact that no one had ever before been able to promote a black entertainment company to national prominence.
Motown turned out to be 'chock full' of talent at every level, and its success quickly became international. This first programme traces the company's early struggles and successes.
