Charles Addams , who died last month, delighted New Yorker readers for over 50 years with his macabre cartoons and reached a larger international public through the Addams
Family TV series and numerous collections of his drawings. In a rare interview, first broadcast in 1978, he talked to Philip French about his early life, his work, and his collection of medieval crossbows. (R)
