One of the more influential vocalists of the last century, Charles drew from gospel, blues, jazz and country to emerge as the definitive soul performer. Among his classics are I Got a Woman, What'd l Say, Hit the Road Jack, I Can't Stop Loving You, You Don't Know Me, Take These Chains from My Heart and, perhaps most notably, Georgia on My Mind. This series, which first aired in 2000, begins with a look at the singer's early years, with input from biographer Michael Lydon and Atlantic Records founders Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertgun.
