with an appreciation of Eric Burdon and the Animals
"They are a group for whom I have much affection because they made some great records: one feels they could have made a good many more.' Eric Burdon has one of the greatest blues voices of our time and it is especially surprising coming from the throat of a white man. Listening to him howl "House of the rising sun" it's hard to believe the sound comes from a human being and a Newcastle boy at that.
'They made a series of records some of which, like "It's my life" and "We've got to get out of this place" were very much in keeping with the rebellious mood of the mid-60s. And some of which, like "Sky pilot" and "San Franciscan nights" were very much in the flower power and acid rock sensibility of the late 60s.'
