Gilliatt disliked the figurehead of La Durande, so he carved a new one of Deruchette. When sailing home one night he saw a young man asleep on the Gild-Holm-'Ur rock, and knowing that it would soon be high tide and the rock submerged, he woke the young man and saved his life.
