Michael Berkeley's guest today is John Cale, the classically trained musician from a Welsh mining village who went to New York, founded the Velvet Underground with Lou Reed and became the leading attraction in Andy Warhol's Factory. Since splitting with Reed he has worked as a record producer and composer, writing the music for films and ballet. His musical choices range from the Beach Boys and Beck to Villa-Lobos, Roy Harris's Symphony No 3 and part of John Cage's notorious 4'33" performed by Frank Zappa.
