An operetta in three acts
Original book and lyrics (adapted from ZAPOLSKA-SCHARLITT) by HEINZ REICHERT and BELA JENBACH
English translation by ADAM CARSTAIRS
Music by Franz Lehar
This studio production In English is the first performance of the complete work in this country. It was first produced in 1927 in Berlin, starring Richard Tauber. for whom it was written. As in all his other operettas Lehar follows the Viennese tradition with Its emphasis on the waltz, but the work also contains some passionate and dramatic episodes comparable to the writing of Puccini.
